Birthcare provides excellent 24 hour care and support for new mums, dads and their babies. We aim to make your birth experience the best that it can be.
We offer flexible choices so you decide what suits you best.
If you birth at Birthcare you'll be given a private room wherever possible. If you choose to have your baby at another hospital, you can still transfer to Birthcare for your postnatal stay.
Our birthing services are free to New Zealand residents and women eligible for free maternity care in New Zealand.
OUR ROOMS
STANDARD ROOMS
No Charge (Up to 3 nights)
Standard rooms have two single beds, an ensuite bathroom and a telephone at each bedside to contact your midwife.
Rooms are twin share so you may be sharing with another mother. We have 22 shared rooms.
PARTNERS STAYING OVERNIGHT
Fold down beds are available on request for partners who wish to stay over in the Private Rooms.
If you birth at Birthcare and have been given a Private Room the charge for your partner is $60 per night.
If you are paying for a private or premium room your partner can stay free of charge.

PRIVATE ROOMS
Partly Funded (Up to 3 nights)
If you birth at Birthcare you'll be given a Private Room (wherever possible).
Private rooms have an ensuite bathroom with toiletries and hairdryer, single bed, flat screen TV, refridgerator, and a telephone (to contact your midwife). We have 17 private rooms.
PREMIUM ROOMS (Subject to availability)
Partly Funded (Up to 3 nights)
Our larger sized Premium rooms have an ensuite bathroom with toiletries and hairdryer, queen size bed, flat screen TV, refrigerator, a telephone (to contact your midwife) and complimentary chocolates. We have 4 premium rooms.
BIRTHING ROOMS
We have three large rooms, all with birthing pools that have been fully refurbished (completed June 2018). Each birthing room has a fridge, bean bags, swiss balls, bead rolls and 2 of our rooms have birthing couches. To help you feel more comfortable and relaxed, each room also has mood lighting, with your choice of light colour, aromatherapy diffusers so you can add your own oils and a sound system with ipod dock so you can play your own music. You are welcome to bring along anything else that will make you more comfortable.

MEALS
Birthcare has our own resident chef, providing tasty, nutritious meals. We can also cater for those with special dietary requirements.
All our meats are Halal.
For your convenience we have snack vending and coffee machines, and two kitchenettes where you are welcome to help yourself to hot drinks.

All meals for mothers staying at Birthcare are catered for.
Meals for guests and visitors are charged for as follows:

Birthcare provides medical and general baby supplies (pain relief, sanitary pads, disposable nappies, wipes) all of which are included as part of our service.
If you are planning on using cloth nappies, bring two with you for a folding demonstration.
Please ensure you have some woollen items, especially if you are transferring from Auckland Hospital and for when you are discharged home.
Please note: Babies must always travel in a car seat. Please familiarise yourself with how to safely use your car seat as per manufacturers instruction before baby is born
Infant Feeding
Birthcare provides everything that is required for breastfeeding. Exclusive breastfeeding is supported and encouraged.
If you are planning to artificially feed, please bring with you the formula, bottles and teats you will be using at home.
N.B. Infant formula is available if required for medical reasons only.
BIRTHCARE TOURS
No tours will be held during any Covid lockdowns
We encourage you to come on one of our tours, no appointment is necessary.

SCHEDULE OF CHARGES
Birthing at Birthcare is free to New Zealand residents and women eligible for free maternity care in New Zealand. Even if you are a New Zealand Citizen, we may ask for proof of eligibility. Please do not be offended as this is standard practice for women of any background.
You may be asked to provide copies of either:
- Your passport (including all pages that have a New Zealand immigration stamp or sticker plus the photo page)
- Your New Zealand birth certificate (and marriage certificate if your name has changed)
- Your New Zealand citizenship certificate
Standard rooms are free for up to 3 nights. Private rooms are partly funded for up to 3 nights.
If you have medical insurance it pays to check your policy, as it may contribute towards the cost of a private room at Birthcare.

BIRTHCARE PAYMENT TERMS
All major credit cards accepted except for Diners Card. We do not accept cheque payments.
All amounts outstanding are to be settled on check out.
Patients are expected to check out by 11.00am on the appropriate day.
Late discharges may attract a discharge fee of 50% of the daily rate.
All prices are inclusive of GST effective from 1st July 2020
Prices may be revised from time to time at the sole discretion of Birthcare Auckland Limited.

Birtcare is central Auckland's primary birthing facility aith 3 birthing suites and 45 postnatal beds. This is a pleasant environment in which professionals can provide "the very best start in life" for mothers and their babies.
Birthcare Auckland employs Midwives with experience in all aspects of maternity. The Birthcare philosophy has a strong focus on natural birth/primary birth and successful breastfeeding. We also provide low level secondary postnatal care to mothers and their babies.
We are seeking midwives who are experienced in all aspects of the midwifery scope of practice to join our team.
You must be registered with the Midwifery Council of NZ, hold a current annual practicing certificate and enjoy providing primary maternity care.
The position offers interesting, challenging and professionally rewarding practice in a very supportive team environment. We also offer an excellent in-house education program to support best practice.
Varied shifts available:
- Morning (0645 hrs - 1515hrs/ 0645hrs - 1915hrs)
- Afternoon (1445hrs - 1915hrs/1445hrs - 2315hrs)
- Night (2245hrs - 0715hrs/1845 - 0715hrs)
There is flexibility with rostered shifts, weekends included.

Quality coordinator role (0.8FTE)
Birthcare Holding Limited is a provider of primary maternity services and facilities. We have two primary maternity units.
- Birthcare Auckland Limited is located in Parnell, Auckland
- Birthcare Huntly is located in Huntly, North Waikato
Birthcare is committed to providing high quality whanau-centred care to women and babies who have come to our facilities. Both Units provide primary birthing services and facilities as well as postnatal stay services for primary and low-level secondary care women and their babies.
Both Units have Health and Disability Services Standards Certification with the Ministry of Health. The Designated Auditing Agency is Q-Audit Limited. Both Units are Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) Accredited.
Role Purpose
To provide overall implementation, intigration and coordination of the Quality Management System at Birthcare. This includes oversight of all aspects of the Units' quality assurance, risk monitoring and continuous improvement culture, through positive relationships with the Units' staff and key relationships with Lead Maternity Carers and Auckland and Waikato Disrict Health Boards. The Quality Coordinator reports to the General Manager.
